Date: 25 July 2022

Paris Pact Expert Working Group (EWG) meeting on “Quality Assurance in Treatment and Care of Drug Use Disorders” was held in a hybrid format in Islamabad, Pakistan on 18 and 19 July 2022.

The event was attended by over 80 nominated participants, representing 22 countries and three international organisations. This Expert Working Group meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Narcotics Control of Pakistan and directly related to the Pillar IV (Comprehensive Approach to Drug Treatment and Care) of the Vienna Declaration, adopted at the Third Ministerial Conference of the Paris Pact Partners in 2012, which serves as the roadmap for the Paris Pact Initiative.

The participants reviewed existing gaps, difficulties, and challenges as well as prospective operational actions in the areas related to the topic of the discussions. Delegates took stock of the recommendations adopted at the last EWG meeting on quality standards related to Treatment and Care of Drug Use Disorders in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) in April 2018 and agreed on ten specific priority recommendations emanating from the discussions, to be reviewed for endorsement at the 16th Policy Consultative Group Meeting (PCGM) planned for 5-6 December 2022, in Vienna.

All meeting documentation, including the presentations made in the course of the two-day event, are available on the secure section of the Paris Pact Initiative’s web portal.
