Based on the financial constraints and insufficient donor support for the Paris Pact programme, the Executive Committee of UNODC has endorsed the decision to close the Global Programme in support of the Paris Pact Initiative (GLOY09) by 31 May 2024.
Since its establishment at the Ministerial Conference in Paris in May 2003, the Paris Pact, with its four pillars—Cross-border Cooperation, Illicit Financial Flows, Precursors, and Drug Prevention and Treatment—has been instrumental in a collective fight against illicit opiates. Over the past 21 years, all 58 partner States of the initiative, along with 23 international and regional partner organizations, have participated in Paris Pact’s activities aimed at adapting responses for coordinated action.
However, the current circumstances have necessitated this difficult step. UNODC is currently in the process of identifying other possibilities to continue progressing key components of the Paris Pact programme through other programmes of UNODC. Additional information will be made available to partners on the Paris Pact web portal in due course.
