Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighbouring Countries (2022-2025) moving to its third phase in synergy with Paris Pact Initiative

The 10th Steering Committee meeting of the Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighbouring Countries took place on 16 December 2021 in Moscow, Russia, back-to-back with the Paris Pact Expert Working Group on Cross-border Cooperation hosted by the Government of the Russian Federation on 15-16 December.

The purpose of the event was to mark the formal 4-year cycle extension of the Regional Programme (2022-2025). The next (third) phase of the Regional Programme duly reflects the priorities expressed and comments received during the related consultation process with the national authorities.

The event was attended by delegations from the Central Asian countries, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, France, experts from the UNODC, the executive committee of the CIS, the CSTO, the EAG and other international agencies. The participants reviewed the achievements made in line with its workplan for 2021, discussed about the continuation of the operational priorities at the regional level, and approved the third phase of the Regional Programme.

The Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighbouring Countries is Paris Pact’s primary operational arm in the West and Central Asia region with regard to the implementation of the priority recommendations adopted in the framework of the Paris Pact partnership.
