The Paris Pact Expert Working Group (EWG) meeting on Illicit Financial Flows was held on 12-13 September 2023 in the online format. This Expert Working Group meeting was directly related to the Pillar II (Detecting and blocking financial flows linked to illicit traffic in opiates originating in Afghanistan) of the Vienna Declaration, adopted at the Third Ministerial Conference of the Paris Pact Partners in 2012, which serves as the roadmap for the Paris Pact Initiative.
The event was attended by over 160 participants, representing 35 countries and ten international and regional organizations.
The participants reviewed current gaps and challenges as well as the recent key operational actions, and took stock of the recommendations adopted at the last EWG meeting on Illicit Financial Flows. The meeting was hosted by the Turkish National Police and resulted in four priority operational recommendations to be further reviewed and endorsed at the 17th Policy Consultative Group Meeting (PCGM) scheduled for 11-12 December 2023, in Vienna.
