The 9^th Ministerial Meeting and the 14^th Senior Officials Meeting between Pakistan and I.R. of Iran in the framework of the Triangular Initiative (TI) were held in Tehran on 13 and 14 June 2023.

The meetings allowed discussions on the existing and emerging counter-narcotics threats and challenges, such as rising trends in illicit production and trafficking of opiates, amphetamine-type stimulants and new psychotropic substances originating in Afghanistan. In the meeting efforts were also made to formulate a joint counternarcotics strategy, which addresses those threats and challenges more effectively.

Following the meeting, a three-day counter-narcotics workshop and a two-day training on controlled deliveries are planned to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan by the end of August 2023.

The Triangular Initiative is directly referenced in the recommendations adopted by the Paris Pact Expert Working Group on Cross-border Cooperation in line with the Pillar I of the Vienna Declaration.
